A (1) Furthermore then we beseech you, BRETHREN, and EXHORT <3870> you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would ABOUND <4052> MORE AND MORE <3123>.

B (2) For ye know what commandments WE GAVE you by the Lord Jesus.

C (3-5) For this is the will of God, even your SANCTIFICATION <38>, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in SANCTIFICATION <38> and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

D (6) That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

C¹ (7) For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto HOLINESS <38>.

B¹ (8) He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also GIVEN unto us his holy Spirit.

A¹ (9, 10) But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. And indeed ye do it toward all THE BRETHREN which are in all Macedonia: but WE BESEECH <3870> you, BRETHREN, THAT YE INCREASE <4052> MORE AND MORE<3123>;

A (1, 2) For yourselves, brethren, KNOW our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as YE KNOW, at Philippi,

B (2) we were bold in our God TO SPEAK unto you

C (2) THE GOSPEL of God with much contention.

D (3) For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:

C¹ (4) But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with THE GOSPEL,

B¹ (4) even so WE SPEAK; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

A¹ (5) For neither at any time used we flattering words, as YE KNOW, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

A (1:7) So that ye were ensamples to all THAT BELIEVE <4100> in Macedonia and Achaia.

B (1:8) For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not TO SPEAK any thing.

C (1:9) For they themselves shew of us what manner OF ENTERING IN we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

D (1:10) And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
