Matthew 18:15-21

A. 15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone:if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

B. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

C. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

D. 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

C’. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

B’. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

A. 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me.

Matthew 16:25,26

(From Ruth)

A. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:

B. and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

C. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world,

B’. and lose his own soul?

A’. or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.

Matthew 13:13-18*

Note: subsequent to posting this structure I see that Lund has published a version in “Chiasmus in the New Testament“(1942).

A. Therefore speak I to them in parables:

B. because they seeing see not;
and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

C. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith,

D. By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand;
E. and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

F. For this people’s heart is waxed gross,
G. and their ears are dull of hearing,
H. and their eyes they have closed;

H’. lest at any time they should see with their eyes,
G’. and hear with their ears,
F’. and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

E’. But blessed are your eyes, for they see:
D’. and your ears, for they hear.

C’. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired

B’. to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them;
and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

A’. Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

Matthew 13:10-13

A. And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them,

B. Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given,

C. and he shall have more abundance:

B’. but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

A’. Therefore speak I to them in parables:

Matthew 8:1-4

(From Todd)

A.  1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.

B. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him,

C. saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

D. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him,

C’’. saying, I will; be thou clean.

B’. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

A’.  4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Note: the clear chiasm is framed by the “great multitude” of people – contrasted with  the leper being told to tell no one.  Mark tells us that he ignored that injunction and “blazed abroad” the healing so that the multitudes thronged Jesus.

Ezekiel 12:17-28

A. 17 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

B. 18 Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness;

C. 19 And say unto the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel;

B’. They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with astonishment, that her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein.

C’. 20 And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be desolate; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

A. 21 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

B. 22 Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth?

C. 23 Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.

D. 24 For there shall be no more any vain vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel.

E. 25 For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass;

F. it shall be no more prolonged:

E’. for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.

D’. 26 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 27 Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say,

C’. The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he
prophesieth of the times that are far off.

B’. 28 Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more,

A’. but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 2:3-8

(From Ruth – edited in light of comment)

A. And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me:they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day. For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them,

B. Thus saith the Lord GOD. And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear,

C. (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

D. And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them,

E. neither be afraid of their words,

F. though briers and thorns be with thee,
and thou dost dwell among scorpions:

E’. be not afraid of their words,

D’. nor be dismayed at their looks,

C’. though they be a rebellious house.

B’. And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.

A’. But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.

Habakkuk 1:13-17

A – And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

B – They take up all of them with the angle,

C – they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag:

D – therefore they rejoice and are glad.

C’ – Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and
burn incense unto their drag;

B’ – because by them their portion is fat, and their meat
plenteous.

A’ – Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

Jeremiah 24:5-8

(From Ruth)

A. Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

B. For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

C. And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord:

D. and they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

C’. for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

B’. And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:

A’.  And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them. And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.

Isaiah 45:15-16

(From SamS)

A. They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.

B. But Israel shall be saved

C. in the LORD

B’. with an everlasting salvation:

A’. ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
