Luke 1:68-79

Note: I have reset this passage after discussion to preserve parallelisms and to draw attention to the centre that embodies the meanings of the names of Zechariah and Elisabeth.

A  (68a)  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel;
for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
(69)  And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David;

B (70)  As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets,
which have been since the world began:

C  (71)  That we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all that hate us;

D  a. (72)  To perform the mercy promised to our fathers,
b. and to remember (see the meaning of Zechariah) his holy covenant;
a’. (73)  The oath (see meaning of Elizabeth) which he sware to our father Abraham,

C’  (74-75)  That he would grant unto us,
that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

B’  (76)  And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

A’  (77)  To give knowledge of salvation  unto his people
by the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God;
whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 To gi
ve light to them that sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Isaiah 63:7

(From BeckyP)

A (7a) I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD,

B (7b) according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us,

C (7c) and the great goodness toward the house of Israel,

B’ (7d) which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies,

A’ (7e) and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

Isaiah 2:1-4

1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2 And it shall come to pass in the last days,

A. that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be
established in the top of the mountains,
and shall be exalted above the hills;
and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go
and say, Come ye,
and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to the house of the God of Jacob;

B. and he will teach (yara) us of his ways,
and we will walk in his paths:

A’. for out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations,
and shall rebuke many people:
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks:
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn (lamed) war any more.

Exodus 33:12-17

A  (12)  And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people:and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name,

B  and thou hast also found grace in my sight.

C  (13) Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight shew me now thy way, that I may know thee,  that may find grace in thy sight:  and consider that this nation is thy people.

E  (14)  And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

E’  (15)  And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

D’  (16) For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us?
(i’)  so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

B’  (17)  And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight,

A’  and I know thee by name.
