  1. Judges 9 – Abimelech
    A – ABIMELECH SON OF JERUBBAAL (vv.1-3)
    B – WORTHLESS AND RECKLESS MEN (v.4)
    C – 70 BROTHERS KILLED (v.5a)
    D – JOTHAM DOESN’T DIE – MEMORIAL STONE – OAK (vv.5b-6)
    E – TREES, BRANCHES, AND FIRE (vv.7-22)
    F – AMBUSH (vv.23-25)
G – GAAL AND SHECHEM CONSPIRE AGAINST ABIMELECH AS KING (vv.26-29):
    F’ – AMBUSHES (vv.30-45)
    E’ – TREES, BRANCHES, AND FIRE (vv.46–49)
    D’ – ABIMELECH DIES – UPPERMILLSTONE – TOWER (vv.50-55)
C’ – 70 BROTHERS KILLED (v.56) So God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech, which he had done to his father in killing his seventy brothers.
B’ – WICKED MEN (v.57a) God also returned all the wickedness of the men of Shechem on their heads,
A’ – JOTHAM SON OF JERUBBAAL (v.57b) and the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal came upon them.

  2. This is a great Chiasm! Appreciate the simplicity of the description. Make’s sense that God would highlight the “Selection of Army (7:1-8)” at the center. God seems to want people who are willing to fight/obey and is still today concerned about selecting His people (while calling everyone).
