Psalm 52*

Note; First part as Nigel independently but also Alden.

To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.

A. 1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man?
the goodness of God (El) endureth continually.

B. 2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs;
like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

C. 3 Thou lovest evil more than good;

D. and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

C’. 4 Thou lovest all devouring words,

B’. O thou deceitful tongue.

A’. 5 God (El) shall likewise destroy thee for ever,
he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place,
and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

A. 6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

B. 7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength;
but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

B’. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God:
I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

A’. 9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it:
and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

  1. the following is from J L Skinner https://digitalcommons.andrews.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2859&context=dissertations

    A. Why do you boast about evil, O mighty man?
    The loyal love of God is all day

    B. You plan ruin
    your tongue is like a sharpened razor, working deceit

    C. You love evil more than good
    false, more than speaking righteousness, Selah
    You love all the devouring words
    O deceitful tongue

    D. Therefore God will tear you down completely
    He will snatch you and tear you away from the tent
    that is, he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

    C’. The righteous shall see it and will fear
    and about him they will laugh

    B’. “Behold, O mighty man, who did not set God as his refuge
    he trusted in the multitude of his wealth
    taking refuge in his destructiveness.”

    A’. But I like a luxuriant olive tree in the house of God
    I trust in the loyal love of God forever and ever
    I will praise you forever because you have acted
    I will hope in your name for it is good, before your holy ones
