Numbers 15:35-36*

From N W Lund – The Presence of Chiasmus in the Old Testament, The American Journal of Semitic Languages and Literatures, 1930, 26, 104-126.  following as near a literal translation as possible. This dramatic and fearful incident illustrates that the Hebrew syntax may have precise patterns obscured by the translation.

A. And said  the LORD unto Moses,

B. shall be surely put to death, the man:

C. shall stone him with stones

D. all the congregation without the camp.

 E. 36 And  brought him

D’. all the congregation without the camp,

C’. and stoned him with stones,

B’. and he died;

A’. as the LORD commanded Moses.
