C (14) OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD,

C′ (15) and THE KINGDOM OF GOD is at hand:
B′ (15) repent ye, and believe THE GOSPEL.
A′ (16) Now as he walked by the sea OF GALILEE, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. (17) And JESUS said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
So as to not end the chiasm in the middle of the narrative, I organized this section a little differently. It has both an inverted chiasm and a parallel chiasm:
Mark 1:14-20 (HCSB)
A – GALILEE (14a) After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee,
B – GOOD NEWS (14b) – preaching the good news of God:
C – TIME MARKER – FULFILLED (15a) “The time is fulfilled,
C’ – TIME MARKER – COME NEAR (15b) and the kingdom of God has come near.
B – GOOD NEWS Repent and believe in the good news! ”
A’ – GALILEE (16a) As He was passing along by the Sea of Galilee,
A – BROTHERS (16b) He saw Simon and Andrew, Simon’s brother.
B – NET (16c) They were casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen.
C – INVITATION (17) “Follow Me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for people!”
D – (18) Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
A’ – BROTHERS (19a) Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John.
B’ – NETS (19b) They were in their boat mending their nets.
C’ – INVITATION (20a) Immediately He called them,
D’ – (20b) and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed Him.
Thanks Perry, I suspect there are many patterns that we have posted which do not yet capture the full structure of a unit of scripture. SRP
