Psalm 9:4-8

A (4) For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne JUDGING <08199> RIGHT <06664>.

B (5) Thou hast rebuked the heathen, THOU HAST DESTROYED <06> the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

C (6) O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities;

B1 (6,7) their memorial IS PERISHED <06>  with them. But Yahweh shall endure for ever:

A1 (7,8) he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And HE SHALL JUDGE < 08199> the world in RIGHTEOUSNESS <06664>, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

  1. Another Chiasmus in the Psalm is:

A (v2) I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name , O thou most High.

B (v3 ) When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

C (v4) For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right .

B’ (v5) Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked,

A’ (v5) thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

There is a second chiasmus a little further down which then picks up on the theme in the centre of this first one. The Psalm deals with Yahweh’s righteous judgments. The word right in v4 is the same Hebrew word as righteousness in v8.

A (v7) But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.

B (v8) and he shall judge the world in righteousness , he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

A’ (v9) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

  2. This is what I noticed:
[[To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David.]]

d: (1)I will PRAISE thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous WORKS.
(2)I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will SING PRAISE to thy name, O thou most High.

c: (3)When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

b: (4)For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the THRONE JUDGING RIGHT.

A: (5)Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
(6)O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.

b: (7)But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his THRONE for JUDGEMENT.
(8)And he shall JUDGE the world in RIGHTEOUSNESS, he shall minister JUDGEMENT to the people in UPRIGHTNESS.

c: (9)The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
(10)And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

d: (11)SING PRAISES to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his DOINGS.
